ABOUT THE AWARENESS PROJECT
The Pink and Blue Awareness Project started in Rochester, NY in October 2017 by Jen Chappell, owner of The Cooper Project. She began by making only a few bracelets asked her family and friends wear them during the month of October to honor her son, Cooper, and all of the other babies who sadly did not survive. These few bracelets turned into over 400 bracelets. As the word spread, more and more people wanted a bracelet and some even began to make and give away bracelets themselves.
In 2018, the awareness project grew even bigger. With the help of many amazing people who are also passionate about the cause, we sent over 3,400 bracelets.
In 2019, the Pink and Blue Awareness Project exploded! Volunteers from all across the country made and donated bracelets. The goal was to send out over 10,00 bracelets and we doubled that! The bracelets were shipped out of Rochester, NY to over 20,100 individuals across the United States!
In 2020, we hope to surpass our 2019 total and keep raising awareness. Amazing people from across the country have been working tirelessly to make bracelets. Many are doing it in honor of a little one they lost. Order your bracelet and help support our cause!!!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL PREGNANCY AND INFANT LOSS AWARENESS MONTH
In 1988, President Reagan proclaimed the month of October as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. One our of every four women suffer from either a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. During October especially, we stand by these families to show them they are loved and supported. This month we are dedicated to fighting against the taboo topic of pregnancy and infant loss. We also encourage you to talk about organizations who support and prevent these losses.
WHY should I wear a bracelet?
There are many reasons why you can wear this bracelet. The main reason is to spread awareness and talk about the fact that 1 out of 4 women suffer some type of pregnancy or infant loss in their lifetime. In the past it has been "taboo" to talk about losses- we want to smash that taboo!!!
WHEN will bracelets be available to order?
Orders still start in mid August. Order dates will be clearly communicated well in advance on all social media platforms and stated on the website.
HOW many bracelets can I order?
We suggest that you order bracelets for your immediate family only. But of course, please share this link for other family and friends to order. We understand that some of you may have had multiple losses and for that we are so, so sorry. Since this project is completely free, we ask that you wear only one bracelet per person. That being said, do whatever feels right in your heart.
WHO can wear these bracelets?
Anyone! Women, men, children - you name it! You do not have to have experienced a loss in order to sport one of these bracelets. In fact, many people who have worn these bracelets in the past have worn them to show their support for others.
HOW can I help make or ship bracelets?
Please visit the Volunteer page to browse all of the ways you can help!
WHAT do I do when I receive my bracelet?
Put it on, triple knot it tight, then cut off the excess string if necessary. Wear it from October 1st- October 31st, 2020 or as long as you like!
HOW do I spread awareness?
After you receive your free bracelet, we ask you to do the following:
Post a picture of you wearing your bracelet on social media with the hashtag #pinkandblueawarenessproject and a brief description of why you are wearing it. We want to share LOTS of your pink and blue pictures!!! Remember, we can't see your picture if your profile is private!
Talk about why you are wearing your bracelet!
HOW long do I wear it for?
You can sport this bracelet as long as you like, but we encourage you to wear it as soon as you receive it up until October 31st. We still have some individuals wearing their October 2019 bracelets!
WHAT are other ways I can support this awareness project?
You can make a donation to The Cooper Project. Read about the missions of this amazing organization below.
